a gift to me personally in this season. When you carry a song, it gets in your bones and challenges you to examine if you are leading it from an authentic posture of the heart. The prayer that is“ Holy and Pleasing” is one of resurrender. It’ s taken directly from Romans 12:1,“ in view of God’ s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God— this is your true and proper worship.” With God’ s mercy in full view, what greater response do we have? A living sacrifice is not a one-time decision; it is a daily posture. It means placing our plans, desires, and ambitions on the altar. But as D. L. Moody wisely said,“ The problem with a living sacrifice is that it keeps crawling off the altar.” This song reminds us that every moment we recognize we’ ve crawled off the altar is not a moment of failure. It’ s an invitation to return and lay everything down again at the feet of Jesus. Watching a room full of college students pray this prayer, my heart comes alive with hope for what is possible through a generation fully surrendered to Jesus.
[ Landon ]“ Watch Him Work” is such a special song to me. It’ s rooted in Romans 8:28:“ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” It’ s really a song of faith, choosing to remember that we have a good Father who has our best in mind and is working all things for our good and His glory. We all walk through difficult seasons, that’ s just part of life but this song is a reminder that God is for us, not against us, and He’ s always at work, even when we can’ t see it. Having the opportunity to lead it at Passion was such a gift because it felt like it was more than just a song. People were singing, it was something they were holding onto. That’ s been the most meaningful part for me, seeing it resonate in real, personal ways. It reminds us that God sees us, loves us, and is still writing our story, and if He’ s been faithful before, He’ ll be faithful again!
[ Chidima ] I love“ What a Worthy Name” so much because it lays out the Gospel in such a beautiful way and then when you get to the chorus, the only proper response to what Jesus has done for us is adoration and praise. Everything changes when we see Jesus for who He really is- worthy, holy, righteous, kind, loving; the King of all Kings, and Lord of Lords. It’ s important for the Church to sing songs like this because they help shift our gaze away from ourselves and back to the glory and the wonder of Jesus. Even when difficult circumstances remain in our lives, worship moves us from worrying about what we cannot control to surrendering in trust to the One who has all power and authority, the One who loves us and gave his life for us. In Philippians 2, Paul writes that Jesus has the name above every name, and that at His name every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. There is unmatched power in the name of Jesus. He alone wears the victor’ s crown. Seeing students boldly proclaim this truth at
