death and that we’ re told to not fear anything. I had the surgery, and it was taken out and then it came back. Just a couple of weeks ago I had the second surgery again, it’ s where you are left open in the doctor’ s chair and they go and they test it with pathology and then they come back and say,“ We didn’ t get all of it, so we have to go in again.”
They did that three times. There was no chemotherapy or radiation and all of that involved. But similar questions or I guess the frailty about human bodies was kind of put in front of me in the midst of all this album. Even just feeling like I was walking through the valley and for other people that were going through similar things in my family. Do you know how long we’ ve got? We’ ve got today, so that’ s all.
[ WM ] And so you must make things right. It’ s about repentance. It’ s about any unresolved estrangements getting settled. I mean, you’ ve got to take care of everything when you get challenging news. I learned that from another friend of mine who was dying of cancer and he called every single person up that he thought he had ever offended or that had offended him, and he made peace with them just before he died. And he didn’ t want any of that stuff on him. He didn’ t want any of those entanglements. But you’ re getting into things that I am going to ask you about, the backstory to the album.
[ Taya ] Wow! I love that.
[ WM ] So, let’ s talk about the album. Your recent release, The Reminder, is a full 12- song album including a live version of“ Come Into the Light”. Please tell us about the project overall. I have some questions regarding some individual songs next, but how was this project conceived? You got a little bit into that already, but how did it all come about?
[ Taya ] So it was January 26th, 2023. I had set some time aside to seek the Lord for this next project. A dear friend who had A & R’ d my first record told me early on that you have all the time in the world to write the first one and then when the second one comes, it always seems like you run out of time. And so, to try to get ahead of that, I wanted to make sure that I had set that time aside. And even though I had one record under my belt, I don’ t think I’ ll ever feel like a professional at this at all. And I never want to run without having the vision ahead of me first.
And God’ s so kind, those who wait upon the Lord not only will renew their strength, but those who draw near to Him, He draws near to them. And so, I knew that He was going to speak if I just set that time aside. And so I was in Southern California, and He spoke to me through birds. It was through a beautiful metallic colored bird I’ d never seen before, but now a couple of years on, I see them everywhere and my eyes were drawn up to the eagles and I felt the Holy Spirit just dropped the two words,“ eagle soar”. Again, I knew it wasn’ t the name of the record, I knew it wasn’ t going to be a song title, it was direction. God in his kindness, he sees the full picture, he’ s the beginning and the end and he’ s everything in between.
And He knew what we would be walking through for the next two years. And he gave me a direction where it was essentially to tell me to
