things like that . On Astrolab , it is easy to do quick edits and adjust when you are rehearsing or jamming with your friends … such as creating a split , adjusting the macros , assigning the pedals to a part . All those quick edits can be easily done from Astrolabs front panel controls allowing you to stay focused on the performance . But you can also go into deep sound design and do pretty much anything you can think of .
[ WM ] Can you tell me a little bit about AstroLabs DAW integration ? For example , I use Pro Tools . Are you able to set it up as a MIDI controller ?
[ Pierre ] Yes , AstroLab is going to work for most applications as a MIDI keyboard . You can send MIDI control changes with the eight knobs on the front of the keyboard and you can assign those CCs to some of the typical DAW parameters if you want . AstroLab is designed to be integrated seamlessly with AnalogLab our flagship sample-based software instrument .
load songs and set lists too . Can you elaborate on that ?
[ Pierre ] Setting performance playlists in AstroLab is super easy . Your playlists are going to be a list of songs and for each song , you can have up to ten presets that are directly accessible on the front of the keyboard . The preset buttons are above the keyboard so that you can click to load any of the ten presets of each song . You can have as many songs as you want and for each song , you have ten presets . So , it is quick to go from one song to another and in each song to use up to 10 presets and to switch between the 10 presets very quickly .
[ WM ] At launch , you are going to have a 61- key version of Astrolab . Are there 49 and 88 versions of Astrolab planned also ?
[ Pierre ] We are working on the other versions . I do not have info I can really share about when they would come out , but it is definitely something on the roadmap .
[ Pierre ] I just wanted to say how exciting it has been in the past couple of months here at Arturia , because this project has been five years of development . Along the way , there were a lot of doubts , a lot of hassle to make AstroLab a reality . That ’ s all behind us now and there has been a lot of incredibly positive feedback from the distributors and even the press .
AstroLab is going to help open a new era for Arturia , especially in the U . S . markets . It feels like there ’ s a lot of people that weren ’ t on Arturia ’ s ecosystem yet , and that we are going to be able to target now that we have a keyboard that ’ s suited for them . We feel that AstroLab will have a big impact on a lot of musicians and will open the gates to a broader audience with the product which is going to be extremely exciting for Arturia as a company .
