Maybe during communion phase or an offering , something where the keyboard player might just be playing some backing sounds . That ’ s a great place to fill out sound where you ’ ve got one musician typically playing .
[ WM ] Right . And of course , in modern worship delays and reverbs are really big . In both guitars and keyboard tones . Tell us about the digital effects that are on board ?
[ Glen ] We designed the effects so that they could actually be high quality , so you wouldn ’ t have to use external effects . You know , now external reverb pedals , some of them are $ 500 now . And when you look at a synth that ’ s $ 1,200 , that reverb pedals probably going to sound better . But ours are legit sounding , they ’ re good . I ’ m working with another band right now . They ’ re a big touring band , multiple Grammys , and they ’ re using the effects that are built into the HydraSynth .
[ WM ] Wow ! Tell about the company . What is Ashun Sound Machines ?
[ Glen ] Yes . So , the parent company is Elli and Elli makes products for a lot of companies . They make products for a lot of the biggest name companies out there . They are a manufacturer . They ’ ll build their own digital piano or drum kits , and other companies will put their silk screen logo on it and sell it .
The original founder of it , his name was George , but they ’ re based in Hong Kong . And his name when you translated it would come out sounding like Ashun . And his philosophy was that music makes people ’ s lives better . And that ’ s passed on down to his daughter who now runs the company . Her name is Fanny Chang and she wholeheartedly believes ( it sounds corny and she even says it sounds corny ) that people that get to make music , their lives are better . They get to tie into that creativity , and they get a way to express themselves . And so we wanted to tie into that motto by calling the company Ashun Sound Machines .
[ WM ] Okay . I understand . In conclusion , what is an important aspect about the new HydraSynth Deluxe that you would like our readers to walk way knowing from our conversation ?
[ Glen ] One aspect of it , it ’ s one of the deepest synthesizer engines that is out there . But again , we designed it so that beginners can even use it . And we ’ re finding a lot of longtime professional synth people , total synth geeks , modular synth folks that are using it because the architectures is like that .
But we ’ re also finding a lot of first-time users who are new to synthesizers using it . And because the voice layout is in the buttons and front panel , it makes it really easy to learn synthesis on it .
So we ’ ve got both ends of the spectrum . The beginner that just wants to , you know , change patches , the front panel ’ s enough that he can even start to delve into sound design a little bit . Yes . And it is a deep dive if you want it to be .
[ WM ] Well , that is a fact Glen . The board is very visual too . You can actually see the visual sine waves on the panel . I thought that was brilliant .
[ Glen ] You can see your music and hear your music .
[ WM ] Thank you for your time !
[ Glen ] You ’ re welcome .
