can use any brand of a local keyboard and just hook up through MIDI . I have a small Behringer interface and a Korg Nano Kontroller2 to have everything at my fingertips without having to touch the laptop in the set . It ’ s all mapped out to sounds , filters , tracks , click etc .
I also always have extra random cords and adapters for when there ’ s a problem , I ’ ll have more options to get the job done in a pinch .
Oh ! And I can ’ t tell you how many times my mini sustain pedal has come in handy . Probably every few places I go , the sustain pedal isn ’ t working properly and I ’ m not someplace that has multiples … so voilà ! I pull out my trusty little pedal and the show goes on ! ( laughing )
Everything I need fits in my backpack that I carry on the plane . There ’ s too many stories of people losing gear on flights and scrambling to be ready for the set … it freaks me out . So , this way I ’ m prepared to walk on stage when I land .
At least for my set up now .
[ WM ] Do you have any gear endorsements ?
[ Lydia ] I don ’ t currently but I ’ d sure be down for some ! * wink wink * Nord … Korg … 64Audio … Shure … Behringer … Protools … MAudio … Apple … etc etc . ( laughing ) Think ‘ Mom of four budget ’ and that ’ s what I have to work with . Ha !
[ WM ] What was the experience like supporting the Women Who Worship project with your keys playing ?
[ Lydia ] It was so fun ! Such a camaraderie and unity in everyone just bringing their gifts and offerings to the table . My take on the emphasis on the night from the artists and producers , was loving on Jesus and back to the basics of authentic worship . It was the first time I have ever played with an all-girl band too ! Usually , I ’ m in the boy ’ s club but this was such a fun experience for all of us .
And sweet Rita Springer hosted a dinner for everyone involved the night before so we could get to know each other , eat and pray . That honestly was such a highlight for me !
[ WM ] Words of encouragement or advice for other worship keys female players ?
[ Lydia ] First things that come to mind are not necessarily only for women … but know your gear , so you can problem solve on your own . Know your craft , so you ’ re prepared to serve in any key and any environment . Surround yourself with people who are better than you to stretch you , and also those who aren ’ t as skilled that you can teach and pour into . You ’ ll still grow a ton with just the act of pouring out .
Put in the time to know the songs and take all the notes - not just for yourself but notes about the other instruments so you can be helpful in
