SUBWOOFERS – WHY , HOW AND HOW | Samia Scoda
20 / 20 is no longer just a vision standard , it is an audio standard in my book — from 20Hz- 20kHz . A strong opening line seemed like an appropriate way to kickstart this article , considering the powerful nature of this topic , subwoofers .
There are handful of things in life that bring me tremendous joy or exhilaration , namely 1:2 power-to-weight ratio super bikes , muscle cars , and breathtaking sound . When I say ‘ breathtaking ’ sound , I quite literally mean sound that changes the way you breathe . Warm , rich , creamy LF output , +/ -3dB down to 21Hz to be exact , complemented by a tight and accurate visceral oomph — truly an experience that fuels my passion to design systems that can do it all . Translating fullspectrum listening experiences into the verbal realm brings forth thoughts and terms such as ‘ emotion ’, ‘ connection ’, ‘ experiential ’, ‘ engaging ’, ‘ enveloping ’, ‘ enlightening ’, and yes , even ‘ spiritual ’. Perhaps the most exciting aspect here is the thought of hearing the music and sound as the artist intended and created on the stage or in the studio . All of the sound , from the lowest lows to the highest highs .
Incredible sonic experiences yield so many things for those who are moved by sound , but one key element that seems to mark the experiences as especially powerful and engaging is their tendency to live on in our memories and serve as a frame of reference . “ Now that was an incredible sonic experience !” A sort of ‘ before full-spectrum sound ’ and ‘ after full-spectrum ’ line in the sand . Every subsequent musical experience going forward gets related to back the pivotal moment of truly experiencing 20 / 20 audio . Future experiences will either register as being somewhat lackluster , or they will contain all the right elements to also be counted as great sound . For those lackluster experiences , the cost is reduced emotional impact .
Chances are if you are reading this article , you are already passionate about music and sound . With any luck , my introduction and perspective has piqued your interest in low frequency HOW applications to some degree . Let ’ s go evangelize the full-spectrum experience through the power of bass .
WHY INCORPORATE LOW FREQUENCY ( LF ) ELEMENTS WITHIN HOUSE OF WORSHIP ENVIRONMENTS ? General ‘ experiential ’ benefits :
• Subwoofers enhance the overall sound quality and experience . The result is a wider soundstage and a more immersive experience for the congregation .
• These elements can help the system more easily reproduce all the notes in the frequency spectrum with strong fundamental frequencies more clearly
