Both models have Spruce tops and solid Sapele back and sides , scalloped X-bracing and a 1.75 ” nut width . The OM body shape ( 000CJR 14 th fret ) sports a cutaway and the DJR 10E is like a shrunken dreadnought body shape .
Our Pre-NAMM HANG event was that night and being that Martin was one of the 21 companies that helped sponsor our event , they allowed me to take the D Jr . Bass with me to showcase to our guests that night . During load-in we took this bass and plugged it into a new Aguilar amp head and cabinet . Our faithful gear editor Michael Hodge ( Lakewood Church , Houston ) took the bass through its paces , and it sounded huge plugged in - thanks to the onboard Fishman Sonitone BT-1 pick-up system . A 9-volt battery compartment for that system is on the bottom side of the bass and there are strap holders under the neck by the body and the end pin so you can place your strap on it and head for the platform . Wow ! I was so glad that I didn ’ t buy that large older bass . This new Martin bass is half the price and is so much easier to wield as an instrument .
Speaking of price , Martin thought this through as well . The bass has a satin finish , simple appointments and is made in their Mexico factory . It comes with a nice gig bag and was very easy and comfortable to walk with . All this lands both these models in at $ 749.00 . Both have the same body depth . As I stated , you can go either with a natural or sunburst finish . I like them both , but I think I am leaning towards the sunburst just because my acoustic guitar is sunburst and I like the cutaway model just in case I want to try some bass soloing .
I believe every bass player should own one of these and every guitar player should too ! They are not just fun to play , they handle the bass duties well , are easily portable , affordable , and sound great . Well done !
