one I have been playing the most is Elliott ' s new STS 135 . Really cool guitar . It looks kind of like a Rickenbacker . But I could tell you this , it ' s not like anything I ' ve ever used before , and I ' ve been tracking with it a lot . It ' s probably the only guitar I ' ve ever used all the way through a session without changing . So that ' s been a really great instrument that I ' ve had out with me . And I ' ve also got the Elliott Royal Haven , which is my main guitar on the road with Jason .
I ' ve got those two Elliott ’ s , I ' ve got a King Bee Strat that a friend of mine Andy out of Texas built years ago .
I also have the wildest guitar you ' ve ever seen . I ' ve used it twice on the Opry now . But it was built by a guy named David Commander in my hometown , and it ' s made out of a John Deere tractor seat .
[ WM ] I saw a photo . That ' s funny .
[ Spence ] People just can ' t get enough of that guitar . The neck is kind of like a Les Paul . I knew he was up to something because he called me . He said , " Hey , if I were to build a guitar , what kind of pickups would you recommend ?" And I was like , " Well I really like Kurtis Lamberton , those Lambertones were pretty cool ”. And he said , " Okay ," he didn ' t say anything else . Well , he ordered them , and he put them in this guitar . And then he gave the guitar to me . And so , Jason and I have been having a hoot with this , this tractor seat guitar . We ' ll pull it out as kind of a crowd-pleaser occasionally .
[ WM ] I like that . How about your amps ? What are you using on stage - modeling or tube amps ?
[ Spence ] Now when I came on with Jason , I was using a Kemper and I was actually an early adopter of the Kemper . I ordered my Kemper and was one of the first 50 that came over . I got it early 2012 and I used it for a lot .
But whenever I was playing a show in North Carolina , I would see Andy Elliott from Elliott photo : Chris Lassiter
