the balance set to the middle position . This setting rendered a familiar “ PJ ” style sound on this bass , which is not unlike many high-end , “ boutique-bass ” instruments on the market . One must typically pay a lot of money for this type of sound !
I sat down with the bass and proceeded to practice a twenty-song set for a local funk band that I play with . I noticed that the MTD had quite a bit of definition and growl to its tone . As I added a tiny bit of bass EQ with the onboard preamp , the overall bass tone took on more of a foundational one and seemed to sound and feel more even and full as I played along with recordings . I am not sure of how much of the more-even string-volume effect was caused by me subconsciously compensating for volume differences between strings , but it seemed to get better as time went on .
I would say that this is a surefire option for a young player starting out without much money to invest in an instrument . Also , churches that need a less-expensive bass to invest in for their future worshipers would make a wise choice by purchasing one of these instruments . Way to go , MTD !
