In MkII Mode ( Alt / Legacy Button LED unlit ) enables you to select one of the HX family delays which of course are awesome . Collectively , you ’ ve got great models of the most iconic delay units in the world at your feet ! The names of each of the MkII delay models are silkscreened in silver around the Model Selector Knob .
As I mentioned before , pressing and holding the Alt / Legacy Button and turning the Model Selector Knob enables you to select one of the fifteen HX family reverbs , which are stellar . While I almost always opt for the Plate model , there is something for everyone here . The Global Settings ( see below ) enable you to place the reverbs before , after ( stock setting ), or in parallel with your delays . For the serious tone chasers this potentially opens the door to some really cool new sounds ! The names for the ‘ secret ’ reverb models can be found in the owner ’ s manual ( digital only ), or the included cheat sheet .
LOOK MA , NO SCREEN If you hate menu diving , you ’ re pretty much sure to love the DL4 MkII . Pressing the Alt / Legacy Button and turning the appropriate knob enables you to easily adjust parameters in real time . The TIME / SUBDIV , REPEATS , AND MIX controls are pretty self-explanatory , while TWEAK and TWEEZ enable you to fine tune algorithm specific features like Wow and Flutter . The workflow is very intuitive once you get your feet wet . for Legacy ) the unit is in . It also has a blueish purple mode that illuminates when you turn one of the controls to stored setting for any of the presets . While you can ’ t copy one preset to another , this process makes it easy to simply recreate a preset , again with zero menu diving . Storing presets is as easy as holding down that preset ’ s footswitch for three or so seconds .
GLOBAL SETTINGS Holding the Alt / Legacy Button and Tap Tempo Footswitch down at the same time enables you to access and assign Global Settings . Once engaged , turning the Model Selector Knob enables you to select the function you want to modify . Like the reverb models , the functions are clearly laid out in the manual . Notables include being able to repurpose the Tap Tempo Footswitch into a Bank Select Footswitch , which adds a second layer of presets ( D , E , and F ) to toggle between . You can also offload Tap Tempo to an external controller , which in turn gives you the option of creating a onebutton looper you engage via the DL4 MkII ’ s Tap Tempo Footswitch .
MIDI Unlike the original , the MkII features MIDI in and out / thru functionality , enabling you to create and access a total of 128 presets ( A-F , 6-128 ). This is particularly useful if you ’ re an HX Stomp user . Hook up a MIDI cable ( not included ) and you can easily offload delay and reverb DSP to the MkII ( huge if you like dual amp setups ) and recall the MkII ’ s presets via Program Change MIDI Messages . When set to the same MIDI channel , every time you move up or down a preset on your HX Stomp , the DL4 MkII will load the corresponding preset . Simply edit the preset on the MkII to taste and you ’ re good to go !
CONCLUSION While some will wish the unit had a screen or deep editor , the goal of this pedal is all about being able to create presets that sound great , are easily editable , and don ’ t require a Ph . D . to create or modify . This pedal rocks !!!
