SOUND CHECK
CHECKING IN …
“ Spring has sprung , the grass has rung …” is an old poem that heralds the arrival of a new season . The poem celebrates the wonder and newness of nature and as children of God the Father , we celebrate the amazing creation of seasons and their cycles .
Here in the early morning as I write this , I can hear the sounds of little birds in our backyard tweeting away with the bustle of their duties gathering supplies for building their nests preparing for the coming yearlings .
I realize that many of our readers are from different parts of the world and this time of year might not be quite Spring yet , or it has already passed . About 40 % of our readers are from outside of the United States altogether .
This brings me to my point about the title of this Sound Check … “ checking in ”.
Both here in the U . S . and abroad the worshipping church is in all different restrictions . Some from COVID 19 ( locked down , 25 % open , 50 % open or some thankfully fully open ) and some from persecution . Yes , in the U . S . we don ’ t quite feel the level of persecution like many of our brothers and sisters do around the world . All because they placed their hope in Jesus . This is something that may be coming to U . S . believers more and more , but is very evident in other countries that our digital magazine reaches . From the point of view of a global worshipping church , I am reminded that when one part of the body sorrows - we all sorrow , and when one part rejoices - we all rejoice .
For years I have tried to follow the ministry of The Voice of the Martyrs which was started by a Romanian pastor of Jewish decent named Richard Wurmbrand . The ministry ’ s original name was Jesus to the Communists . I had the honor on going to a home Bible study where Pastor Wurmbrand spoke several times . He
opened my eyes to the plight of persecuted Christians around the world ( vom . org ). Reading the testimonies of persecuted brothers and sisters is sobering indeed , but like it says in Revelation 12:11 They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony ; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death .
I need to be mindful of all believers everywhere and carry them in my thoughts and prayers . Lord forgive me , for not being as consciously aware as I need to be regarding the persecuted church .
May the Lord help all of us to be mindful of the truth of the gospel ( no matter where we live ) and how we are all called to live it out here on earth in His power and His grace .
Lord Bless ,
