“THE BLESSING” OVER THE
It doesn’t happen often. A song connects so
deeply and so widely and in such extraordinary
circumstances that it’s difficult to deny the
fingerprint of God Himself. The impact is
profound. A moment in time is forever linked
in many peoples’ memories with a particular,
unifying song - the same melody, the same
words, the same sense of God’s reality, grace
and love.
The Lord bless you and keep you
Make his face shine upon you and be
gracious to you
The Lord turn His face toward you
And give you peace

Along with many, many people around our
Covid-19 stricken world right now, as I write
this article in early May (for publication in June) I
am in the middle of such a moment with a song
called “The Blessing”.
God only knows what state the world will be in
by the time you’re reading this. I have no idea

In any case, it’s worth noting that the
extraordinary impact of “The Blessing” is not
just because it’s a well-crafted song with solid,
Biblical lyrics. Nor is it simply because we have
heard the song and enjoyed listening to it since
it was first presented to us in early March by
Elevation Worship.
No! It’s because The Church - the global
Church - has been singing it together despite
the restrictions placed on singing together that
Covid-19 has forced upon us.
