you could easily miss a critical insight into this potential teammate. QUESTIONS. A healthy qualification process has a pre-determined list of questions that help you reveal if the potential team member has the qualities—the character and skills that you want. And you want to ask the right question at the right time in the "Queue." To help, I want to share a document of prewritten qualification questions for you you. Get free access to the 27 Audition Questions PDF here. QUICK-RELEASE. A healthy qualification process contains places along the path where people can exit (or be ejected) early on. If you build your qualification process in the right way, a person may recognize that they're not a good fit—and self-select out. Or, you'll see the mismatch and not move the person on to later steps. QUIRKS. A healthy qualification process allows for time and interaction, so the candidate's quirks—peculiar behavior, habits, personality issues, musical shortcomings, etc.— can be identified. Had I spent more time with Jim, I would've seen his band-drowning "quirk" of playing with all-ten-fingers-all-the-time. Quirks might not disqualify a person. We all have them. It's just good to know sooner than later what they might be. If they are too quirky, or cross the line towards dysfunction (like Jim), you'll need the next Q. QUASH. A healthy audition system works to quash dysfunctional behavior or unhealthy attitudes before they enter your team. That is, you have to say NO to people who don't meet your qualification standards—musically, spiritually, or relationally. If you don't, that lousy invite will erode the culture of your team. If someone isn't entirely qualified, but they aren't deserving of a hard pass, you need the next Q. QUALIFIED INVITATION. A successful audition system will leave room for people who aren't yet up to your standards, but they have potential. You can invite them into the team with certain conditions, expectations, or limitations—i.e., a "qualified invitation." When you do, be clear about what standards this person needs to work towards. And better still, find someone on your team who can mentor and help move this person along. IMPLEMENTING THE QS If you build these seven Qs into your qualification system in the right way, you will create an intentional and relational process that will keep the wrong people out and invite the right people in. And as you start implementing these seven Qs, don't forget about the 27 Audition Questions. This free resource will jumpstart renovations on your new team member qualification process. Enjoy!
