UPPERROOM DALLAS’ MATT FISH CAPTURING AN ATMOSPHERE OF TRUTH AND AUTHENTICITY by Alexander MacDougall Despite his relatively young age, Matt Fish has worked as a producer, songwriter, and musician, with Phil King, Gateway Worship, Christ For the Nations, Rita Springer, Leeland, Jeremy Riddle, and many others. He’s currently an integral part of UPPERROOM in Dallas, whose own recordings and songs are gaining impact throughout the church worldwide. Their newest full-length recording, Land of the Living, was recently released. [WM] Matt, I have seen your name in credits many times and heard such good things about you! It’s a pleasure to get this chance to visit with you. Tell us about your background. Where did you grow up and what and who are your early musical and worship music influences? As a producer, you must have some producerfavorites. [Matt] First of all, thank you for having me. This is a long-winded question for me, I grew up in the church. My parents have a church here in Fort Worth, Texas, which is about forty miles west of Dallas. It’s kind of a smaller town. So, from a young age growing up in the church, my Dad was a musician, and his whole family were crazy prodigy musicians. Everyone played instruments. I was forced to take piano lessons when I was eight, and it was totally against my will, which is funny when I look back because I wish I had paid attention better back then.
