STATE OF THE STREAM | Doug Doppler
Jesus Culture Sacramento | April 26 | 9am Service
Hello worship peeps! It’s been a couple of
months since we put together the Church Video
+ Streaming Handbook, and since then we’ve
streamed ten episodes of The Worship Guitar
Show. While we were thrilled with the warm
reception the handbook and The Worship
Guitar Show have received. [WM] Publisher
Bruce Adolph and I decided there was a lot
more we needed to be doing to serve you and
your teams.
TAKE A FRESH LOOK WITH US
At [WM], this magazine is our ministry. Akin
to the Sunday to Sunday cycle of church, the
magazine publishing cycle has a rhythm to it.
And just like church, the gravitational pull of
the cycle can blind you to how much progress
you’re actually making.
With that in mind, we wanted to take a fresh
look at how we were approaching the whole
streaming conversation with our readers. Yes,
we’ve been providing content about streaming,
but that is different than crafting a strategic plan
about to approach equipping churches hungry
to grow in their online expertise.
STEERING THE SHIP
If you’re not firmly committed, even the best
of intentions tend to become great aspirations
that slowly fall by the wayside with each
passing week. We’ve all been there, and part of
breaking that cycle is facing it and being willing
to take the first step to steering the ship in a
new direction.
Ironically, our first step came from Doppler’s
Gear Garage, my mainstream facing show.
The 11th episode was entitled “Music +
Technology” and focused largely on streaming.
Since that episode aired it has really bugged
me that we didn’t have a show in place on the
worship side to present that same information.
After sharing my heart with Bruce about this,
we agreed that we needed put a lot more skin
in the game, starting with the magazine.
The following is our first step to share some of
the key things I’m learning by streaming two
weekly shows. Like you, much of what I’ve
learned has been through a lot of trial by fire.
In multi-streaming to Facebook and YouTube,
there has been a lot more fire than I initially
anticipated, Silly me! While I’d encourage you to
watch the “Music + Technology” episode from
the Gear Garage, the following is a condensed
version of a number of the things I shared…
