each musician for what they bring to the table. I
have no issue, why not throw a drum solo into a
service? In the light of this is all worship to God.
This has nothing to do with solely glorifying that
particular musician, although they are being
used, they’re a vessel for sure. I love thinking
about that, letting the music kind of shine.
[WM] It’s time to talk about your new WFLIII
Drums. They are absolutely amazing. Can you
tell us about them and their design, and how
you came to be endorsed by Bill Ludwig III? I
love how Bill has taken online drum ordering
to a new level with the extent of customizing
options available and innovations to his drums.
[Martin] I would first like to say a big thank
you to Bill and his team, and to Kipton, who’s
been my rep there. When they first reached
out to me, I started getting emotional hoping
that they would want to support my vision,
and they’ve kind of walked alongside me and
helped me to achieve what I was trying to
achieve. It’s hard to do that without pushing the
agenda of a company wanting to promote their
drums through you. I’ve felt very cared for and
supported in all of that, it’s incredible.
They called me in the fall of 2019 saying
they would love to give me a kit, and to me
it seemed like such an opportunity to do
something different and unique because they
had been so generous. I started thinking, what
if I could have a kit that was my journal and I
put my journal entries, in a sense, on it? My
first idea was to have this white kit and start
writing in permanent marker on it, but then I
thought it could be cool but might look a little
tacky. So, I started doing some research and
found out about this particular type of art called
“pyrography”, which is a wood burning form of
art. Literally the first artist that I found when I
searched pyrography artists Nashville was this
lady that lives ten minutes from my house,
which is incredible. So, I called her and told her
what I was thinking, and that I’d love to meet
with her and tell her my story and my testimony.
I then met with her, and as I was talking, she
was just writing away in her notebook all of
these different images and ideas. The way she
thinks is so much in layers and there is a lot
of depth there. So, we started putting designs
together and put together this piece. And
she burned it all onto the drum shells. I had
previously reached out to Kipton at WFLIII and
told him what I was thinking. Even then I was
hesitant, because they had just given me this
brand-new kit and I was like, “Hey I’d love to
put a burn effect on it” (laughs), I didn’t want
that to sound disrespectful at all. So, I called
him and told him what I was thinking and that I
wanted to make sure they were on board, and
they absolutely were. So WFLIII Drums sent me
the bare shells without any hardware, it was
interesting trying to figure it out at first because
drums are round, and the work she typically
