something different than we planned?
On a practical level, most live services,
including ours, operate using a brief broadcast
delay ranging from 30 seconds to a couple of
minutes. As long as the campuses stay behind
the broadcast campus sermon start time, they
can actually bring in the sermon feed at the
right time. As a backup, they may have to bring
in the sermon from earlier in the day or even
Saturday night. And if the live feed and backups
all fail, each campus pastor has the sermon
notes and is prepared to take it.

[Rick] We’re doing a major change shift right
now. For years we’ve used Stream Monkey
to broadcast content to the campuses.
Understand that some of our campuses are
mobile, some are permanent installs, and
the infrastructure varies at each location. So
optimizing how we broadcast for one location
may hinder another location or decrease
reliability. Additionally, the way we’re cueing
up the stream for playback at the campuses
is a little cumbersome for volunteers on our
current equipment. So, while Stream Monkey
is great, for our specific application we’re
switching to a stream delivery system called
Living As One. Changes in technology usually
require an investment, but in the grand scope
of things it helps us to hit our goal of simplicity
and reliability.
