TIPS WITH MULTITRACKS CAN YOU FLOW USING TRACKS? | Christy Colmenares "I don't use tracks because they don't let me flow!" A gentleman expressed to me at a conference. I respectfully asked him if he had ever used tracks when playing live and the gentleman said he had never used them because it was very difficult to do. Naturally, I took that opportunity to talk with him about his doubts and also share some benefits that come with the use of tracks. I pulled out my iPad, opened up Playback, our multitrack player, and gave him a short demonstration of how to use the app. I pressed a button to loop a section in real time, changed the key of the song, and many other things with just the press of a button. His eyes widened in amazement. After seeing this, the gentleman said, “Is that all it takes? Doesn't it take more programming and time beforehand?” I replied, “No, it really is that easy!”. When I think about this conversation, I can't help but to think about how many people also struggle with this mentality. So, in this article I want to share with you a few tips that can help you continue growing as a church and as musicians. 1. LEAVE THE "IT'S VERY HARD" MENTALITY BEHIND. We live in a world that is innovating every day. As a church, we believe in an innovative and creative God and that is why we cannot be left behind simply because we are more comfortable with tradition than with innovation. Technology can be intimidating, but many times it is simpler than we think. I encourage you not to let your mindset or perhaps, lack of knowledge of technology, prevent you from exploring better ways of doing something. The best changes begin with a change of mentality, a bit of courage to learn something new and willingness to continue growing. 2. KNOW YOUR TOOLS 3. START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE As the saying goes "Practice makes perfect”.
