Out of the box, they are larger than I initially
expected. Partly because my current monitors
at home are too small and have been begging
for upgrade for a few years. I’m accustomed to
seeing those little ones on my desk. Hey, that’s
kind of like my first paragraph… They power
up with that cool blue PreSonus logo on the
bottom and right now with nothing playing
through them, I can tell they are on, but they are
super quiet. The monitor box is substantially
built with a molded face plate to house the silk-
dome tweeter and custom woven composite
8” woofer with 140w of power. A nice air-port
on the bottom for low frequencies keeps it
sleek and classy. The balanced result of the
design provides a very wide listening range…
that means the sound does not change when
I move from side to side…That way, I don’t
have to sit right in front of the speakers to get
the best sound. The custom woven composite
woofer provides a very focused low end so as
to provide more bass clarity. These can reach
frequencies down to 35Hz.
The first song I played was Iron Bell Music
“Glory to Glory.” If you don’t know it, you need
to! It starts out with mostly organ and Stephen’s
raspy vocal. So clear and balanced! When the
bass and kick hit at the end of verse 1, it’s
totally captivating. Even without a dedicated
subwoofer, I’m hearing such a round bass and
deep mid-range.
Controls on the back provide boost and cut
for Gain, Mid Frequency, and High Frequency.
There’s a Low Cutoff setting to choose
between flat, 80Hz, and 100Hz. This allows
the monitors to be tuned specifically to the
room and makes it possible to connect with
a separate subwoofer. As well, there’s an
attenuation switch titled Acoustic Space with be set to 0dB. There are three audio inputs on
a setting of -4dB, -2dB, and 0dB. This is the back… RCA (unbalanced), TRS (balanced),
specifically designed in regard to the low end and XLR (balanced). These inputs make the
