Phil Naish were doing up here at Sweetwater and some of the recording master classes. Just on a whim, it was Phil Naish, myself, and Tom on the phone, and I said, “What’s Russ doing these Sweetwater Studios, Studio A days?” And Tom said Russ was doing great and he’d give him a call if I was interested in doing something with him like this. So he gave Russ a call, and Russ was into it, so he brought him up. The way these classes work is we record some music with a studio rhythm section, we had John Hammond on that session, who Russ has known for years, we had Tom Hemby, and I think Mark Hill was on that. So we needed something to record, so we re-recorded “I Still Believe”, which is on the record, and Russ came in with Marcus’s song “When I Hear Your Name”. We recorded the songs, we did the class. The way these sessions work is you do Crowder with Russ Taff at Sweetwater Studios a day of sessions and then there is a bunch of teaching. Russ and I spoke after the fact and and the whole instrumental musical break in the Hemby is playing this nylon string solo guitar said, “Why don’t we finish these songs out and middle of it really takes a nice left turn. When it part over the top of it, and after you hear some see what they sound like?” Because we were gets to that point in the song, and I think this of the lyrics and Russ reels you in by telling this actually really happy with the new version of “I is the way God was working and we didn’t story, when it gets to that part it really does Still Believe”, and “When I Hear Your Name” know it at the time, but it really is a moment make you bow your head. is just a beautiful song with a great message, of worship.
