were doing up here at Sweetwater and some
of the recording master classes. Just on a
whim, it was Phil Naish, myself, and Tom on the
phone, and I said, “What’s Russ doing these
Sweetwater Studios, Studio A
days?” And Tom said Russ was doing great
and he’d give him a call if I was interested in
doing something with him like this. So he gave
Russ a call, and Russ was into it, so he brought
him up.
The way these classes work is we record some
music with a studio rhythm section, we had
John Hammond on that session, who Russ
has known for years, we had Tom Hemby, and
I think Mark Hill was on that. So we needed
something to record, so we re-recorded “I Still
Believe”, which is on the record, and Russ
came in with Marcus’s song “When I Hear Your
Name”. We recorded the songs, we did the
class. The way these sessions work is you do

teaching. Russ and I spoke after the fact and and the whole instrumental musical break in the Hemby is playing this nylon string solo guitar
