rock band just the three of us. memory more than skill of playing. [WM] Were you going to be a Christian band [WM] Rush has all of those different we would wait. When a band was playing they
at that time or just a band? time signatures. would usually do several forty-five minute sets,
[Peter] No, just a band at the time. [Peter] It was all of that, we were inspired by trying to meet girls or something, we would ask
that. And a Pop band for us was Thin Lizzy them if we could jump up and play. And most
you know what I mean, it wasn’t top 40 so of the time they let us. So we would just get up,
much. So the three of us began to jam a bit and I’d hook my kick pedal up, and I wouldn’t
[Peter] The first name we had, we were called and we played our first show as a three piece, change the guys kit again (Laughs), and so
Changes. The first show we played we were but none of us could really sing at the time, we’d play a few songs and people would kind
called Changes. We would just rehearse a lot of so we decided we would need a singer. We of get a kick out of it, and then we’d pack up
Rush stuff, a lot of Top 40, different things, The didn’t want to get a singer because we just and leave.
Police, stuff that we were interested in. wanted to be a three-piece progressive band,
all of the pubs where bands were playing, and
we were underage so we would sneak in, and
and when they took a break and they were
[WM] But you had the name Newsboys?
but we thought we needed to get a singer and
[WM] Did you do any Phil Collins?
[WM] Okay, so where did it go after that?
we found John James. He was a local in the
church, and we kind of hung out a little bit. [Peter] From there on we would play anywhere
[Peter] No we didn’t do any Phil Collins, I That’s when we started driving around our little that we could. We’d play on the beach, we
don’t know why. I think for us, before we even town, it was a small kind of tourist town but wouldn’t have a sound system or we would
played shows we’d just jam. We wrote a lot of there were a lot of little bars and pubs, and we have a little rig for vocals or John would sing
stuff, George did, so it was a lot of… I don’t would drive around every weekend with a bass through one of the amps. But we would plug
think we had any song that was in 4/4, it was guitar, a guitar, some sticks, and a kick pedal in in, like at the park there would be the public
a lot of intricate sections that were really about the trunk of the car. We would drive around to toilets with electricity so we would plug in there
