photo by Nick Langlois I’m just looking for a good clean tone, so as [WM] What is the other ‘go to’ gear on your far as amps, yeah, I like a clean Fender, I like board? clean Supros, I like a clean solid-state amps, whatever. The unfortunate thing is, what most [Cory] The Eventide H9 is great, I have two of amp companies get excited about it is like, “Oh them on my board right now, kind of a bunch man, this thing cranks up nicely.” And I’m like, of different effects all in one, sounds great, fun. For ‘verb I love the Strymon Big Sky, it’s the “Man, you lost me. What you tried to sell me on just broke me away.” If they were like, “Dude, this is the cleanest, loudest amp, doesn’t break up at all!” I’m sold! Most amp companies are Cory Wong Reverb Interview // “Drives, Compressors & Stratocasters” greatest ‘verb on the planet. I use the Bloom all that I use now for drive. Sky set up, I have one bank that’s kind of your and the Cloud. Basically, the way I have my Big standard light spring verb, light hall, and then not excited about that. Compressor! I’ve been playing around with another bank is three different variations of the When I play with Vulfpeck I normally use some some different things, but lately I’ve been using bloom verb, basically how wet and how much sort of bigger Fender amp that I can put at 3 the Wampler Ego compressor, love the name of it is in there, then another bank that’s cloud, and it stays clean. So Supro, they kind of built too. But, you know, I’m trying stuff out. The so I only use three banks on my Big Sky, just a prototype custom made for me, a small 1x12 thing I love about that compressor is that is kind of stock guitar guy, bloom verbs, and then amp, to try out for this tour. And I’ve been using compresses but it doesn’t make it more pokey, cloud verbs. a DV Mark Raw Dawg amp, which is a great it makes it more “beefy” when it compresses. A clean solid-state amp. It’s got like a micro-cab lot of compressors make the sound a little more I love the Walrus Audio Warhorn for drive and or something in it, I don’t know, I don’t care. I mid-range or pokey – not what I’m looking for. I I love the Vertex Steel String for a light drive. I don’t care about tubes, I just want a clean amp! like a compressor that kind of beefs it up when can play through anything and turn that Steel it compresses. String pedal on and it sounds like I’ve got a great tube amp. That’s what I love about that If I’m playing more of the Pop sessions I like tubes once in a while, sometimes I want to get [WM] Do you dial the tone control back on thing. The most fun I have is with a compressor that breakup thing. But most of the time I use a the Ego? and that thing. It’s not like all of a sudden, it’s this crazy weird sound. With the compressor, Walrus Audio Mayflower for my drive and then the Vertex Steel String, or a White overdrive, [Cory] Pretty much everything at noon give or the general public is not going to hear much those are my favorite drive sounds, that’s really take five percent. of a difference, but I hear a gigantic difference. 88 February 2019 Subscribe for Free...
