feel like I’ve done that up until this point, you
know, I was riding high on the success of my
last album, “Deep South”, and celebrating my
latest number one, “Hometown Girl”. Then
this opportunity came along to do this Gospel
record, and I just felt like it was the Lord’s time.
My favorite part of my job is to go into the studio
and be creative and put a record together. It’s a
lot of hard work, but like I say, just seeing those
songs come from nothing to being on a record,
and being able to go out to the mass public,
is just an incredible process. I’ve been wanting
to do a Gospel record for a long time, my fans
have been asking for one for a long time, and
so I was very pleased that I was able to do this
project and finally give it to them.
[WM] In the trailer for I Serve a Savior you
say, “We live in an age where there’s not a
lot of hope in entertainment, and I know from
experience that the message and the songs
from this record are messages of true hope,
and it’s hope that you can actually cling to and
you can count on.” Your hit “Long Black Train”
is among the songs on this release, so clearly
you’ve already drawn a line in the sand in terms
of where you stand when it comes to singing
and praising Jesus. One could say that Country
music seems to spend a lot of time pointing
people toward the bar and a quick relationship
and not upwards. Does that ever bother you?
