where art plays into that… A good friend of mine Alan Levi said to me, “At some point, as believers, I feel like it aught to be unmistakably clear if we are following Jesus that our art reflects that.” Now whether that comes right out and spells it out in perfectly plain English, or whether it challenges people to look into their own hearts, or whether it deals with the hard parts of life. To me I love the idea of trying to come at that from a whole bunch of angles and ultimately just with telling our story and talking about our experience as individuals and as a group just living life and following God. How messy and crazy that can be at times! How glorious it can be at times! How incredibly sad that can be at times! It’s just the whole gamut. For me, I think about a four-course meal. I think the church is sometimes guilty of, and I think even Christian music can be guilty of, being afraid to talk about the harder, darker things. And I get it, we want to believe that church and Jesus is a really happy and safe place. And Jesus is a safe place, and there is a lot of joy in following Him, and at the same time I don’t think its an honest life to not acknowledge how hard it can be. And I love the idea of positive and uplifting and encouraging, but sometimes I need to be uplifted in the middle of a really, really heavy thing or a season that I’m walking through. That might mean my heart is not in a place where I can just sing an old childhood camp song that I learned. [WM] Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this time together. I know it’s a big deal for everyone to get together due to schedules and this virus time as well. I’m really excited about the new project. [WTK] Thank you Alex! Thank you, brother.
