Streaming, chat and on-the-fly video production adds to a live in-person service at The Pursuit in Snohomish, Washington. existing ethernet infrastructure is a big win. I like AVB, but the requirement for special AVBcompatible network hardware doesn’t always work with already-stretched budgets. As a big fan of Symetrix, Dante becomes an easy choice. [Jon] I think we will see other players compete heavily with Dante in my opinion. I love Dante and think its great but I believe we will see something more from MADI or even Waves. MADI has been around for awhile now, I think we will see something more to improve AES10. [WM] Has your technical ‘worldview’ changed as a result of the last 90 days? [Jon] I think yes and no. My large room system approach has stayed the same. I have thought a lot more about adding room mics to help with livestreaming should that be needed. I also have thought a lot more about room treatment (acoustics) and that balance between having a nice dead room that would suit a livestream well vs. a room with some liveliness and appropriate reflections. [Alex] Absolutely. Because of COVID, the ability to stream, record, and mix audio well for streaming is no longer a ‘bell and whistle’, it's a necessity. We've even noticed the desire for great lighting to improve stream quality increase. Not just how it looks inhouse. Clients look at it through a camera lens first, then in-person second. [Judson] I never thought I would be a network guy, but we have installed, fixed and supported so much network in the last 90 days. IT companies are so slammed, they cannot respond to all of the calls. So we are now designing networks as part of our system designs. The happy side-effect is that a network designed to handle AV over IP is a pretty great network for everything else, too! [WM] Have you taken the chance to learn any new technology or dive into new certifications or generally research some new sort of thing in the tech space over the last 90 days? [Judson] I love adding new tools and skills, but we have been so busy, we have had very little downtime to take advantage of the great learning opportunities. The exception has been networking, but it has been more of an on-the-job learning style, and the only certification we have found is a system that works and a happy client. [Jon] I have learned Meyers Sound’s MAPP XT software super well. I would like to get a Dante certification in the near future. I learned MAPP XT because I would like to utilize it personally in the future for some side projects. I also have spent a lot of time digging into Waves plugins. I use them all the time and have for a long time but I normally didn’t read the plugin manuals. One thing I love about audio production is that when you learn something new, it could potentially be used in 126 August 2020 Subscribe for Free...
