JUDSON BARTELS ALEX PEAKE JON SAUER XLR cable that can trace, and if that does the job, keep it that way. With that being said, I still firmly believe Dante has its place, we just hardly use it. We are a big fan of Allen & Heath desks, and if needed, the SLink protocol has made splits so easy that we hardly find ourselves needing Dante. We do have the occasional client that wants to split, record, and do virtual soundcheck as well, and that's where we implement it. I personally wish we could all pick one format and that be the standard, though! (laughs) [Judson] The digital audio world is pretty fascinating. Broadcast uses a lot of MADI, installed and touring sound seem to use a lot of Dante and AVB, and then many manufacturers have their own protocols (Allen & Heath SLink, etc.) I am seeing a trend towards protocols like this that play well with others, that is, on standard networking. If you are in a smaller or dedicated setup, then it is fine to connect with an ethernet cable and call it a day. But in a lot of modern setups, our clients want to be able to connect for distributed audio, flexible arrangements, separate mixes for broadcast or others.
