to standard tuning, something I’ve never
experienced before. Mids are a vital part of a
great sounding rhythm instruments ability to
sit in the sweet spot in a mix, and this guitar
has an outstanding midrange voice. I’m not
kidding, this $599 guitar is a rhythm monster.
From Cory Wong-inspired funk to overdriven
jangle, whatever ‘it’ is, this guitar’s got it. It’s
kind of like a Tele, but with a bit more clarity
and not quite as much top end to tame.
For a single coil, the bridge pickup has plenty
of drive without being harsh. The neck pickup
is full but not boat-y. As great as those sound,
the real magic is the jangle you get in the
middle position which also happens to be hum
cancelling. Jangle for days with lots of lovely,
bubbly mids. Honestly, all three positions are
awesome, but this one is particularly so!
If you like offset guitars, vintage vibes with
modern amenities, don’t mind a short-scale
instrument, love rhythm guitar (and a smoking
deal), I strongly encourage you to check out the
Fender Player Series Duo-Sonic.
