noting that 80Hz is my preferred sweet spot
for boosting bass, these speakers live where I
need them to for mixing, critical listening and
for A/B’ing with a larger set of monitors like my
Eris E8s.
These speakers deliver the same kind of
warmth, clarity, definition, and intelligent feature
set that I love in my Eris E8s, but in a smaller
package. While I do my ‘serious’ mixing on
my E8s, when I select the E3.5s I am always
impressed at the continuity between the two.
I’m equally impressed at the ability it gives me
to have confidence knowing that my mixes will
translate to smaller desktop speakers, which is
crucial in this day and age.
As a desktop speaker, the Eris E3.5s are just
awesome. At 25 watts they produce 100dB
at 1 meter, and trust me, they get plenty loud.
Noting that the church world and the broadcast
world have collided, these speakers are perfect
for churches looking for the right speakers to
get that job done right. And for just under $100
retail, this won’t break your budget.
Like many desktop/computer speakers, one
of the Eris E3.5s serves as the connectivity
hub, piping audio to the other speaker via the
included speaker cable. The back panel on the
host speaker features balanced ¼” inputs as
well as RCA connectors for devices like DVD
players. The Acoustic Tuning section features
High and Low controls, each with a range of +/-
6dB. As a general rule I’d suggest setting them
flat and perhaps cutting a little bass if you have
to work in a corner or right up against a wall per
potential bass buildup from the rear port. The
front panel features a volume knob, Aux-in and
headphone jacks, as well as a power switch.
If you’re in the market for a great set of monitors
that solve a number of production related
challenges, I strongly recommend you check
out the PreSonus Eris E3.5 nearfield monitors!
