day. How was this idea born?
[Javier Solis] When I heard your question I
thought to myself, “this guy must not wanna
sleep for a few months. Oh wait, this crazy
dude is me.” Haha…
Anyway back to the
question. I originally started tossing the idea of
a coffee shop around with my daughter, Zylah,
who at the time was at Belmont University.
She mentioned it would be cool to have a
small venue as well. So I sat on that idea for a
couple of years. Then my son, Uriah, went to
Belmont as well and he, too, thought a coffee
shop/small venue was a good idea with high-
end boutique coffee. So once us three were on
the same page I brought the idea to my wife,
Yvonne, and she chimed in with the breakfast
tacos idea. The rest is history!
[WM] You have some “musician friendly”
décor in Tempo. Tell us about that?
[Javier] Yeah we do. My wife and I have
always had drums and percussion instruments
around the house. They’ve always ended up
being a coffee table or some kid of lamp in
our house. So this just naturally became the
decor approach for Tempo. The piano has a
waterspout that pours charcoal filtered water.
The pendent lights in the bench seating area
are cymbals and the coffee bar starts with
my road case I bought for my first tour out of
Nashville in 1997.
[WM] Having musicians, producers and
engineers coming through the shop have you
seen some good connections being made for
your patrons from this modern-day watering
hole?
[Javier] Yes! I’ve seen connections happen
every day. It’s amazing the connections being
made at Tempo. It’s a really cool hangout spot.
[WM] You also serve a really good taco
breakfast. Was your mother the main reason
this part of the menu came forth?
[Javier] The breakfast tacos we serve at
