Our next guest is a worm farmer from Hong Kong , which is pretty rare over there . In a place where agriculture is almost absent , Ivan is trying to promote the benefits of vermicomposting for the environment .
I started vermicomposting for almost 4.5 years . I first heard of it when I was studying in Canada and later heard of it again in a local ( Hong Kong ) newspaper that talked about a company named TerraCycle . I was obsessed with this idea as it is meaningful and environmental friendly . Then I started doing a lot of research about it . Too bad that there aren ' t too much information about vermicomposting in Chinese so I have learned most of the knowledge from redwormcomposting . com hosted by Bentley . I am a person that never likes my full time job and one day I decided to start my side business which is to buy two plastic bins , coconut coir , 100 red
worms and a power drill with a lot of faith on it . Obviously , it is harder than it sounds and it ’ s also funny that I have encountered almost every beginner ’ s mistake .
I have been obsessed with vermicomposting because I found out “ The more I learned , the more I realize how much I don ' t know ”
about the nature . The learning seems like will never ended and the experience is fascinating ! There is no doubt that as a beginner I made a lot of mistakes such as over-feeding , fruit flies problem , anaerobic , buying a lot of Indian blue instead of red worms ... etc . I have solved most of the problem with the great help of different member from the Facebook group “ Red Worm Composting ". and working hard on it in Hong Kong . This is the main reason that I joined WFA and there are a lot of good information for me ! The only drawback for me is it ' s really too much information and sometimes I don ' t have time to read them all . However , I am very satisfied with WFA !
As one of the WFAer George Mingin said you need to have “ A keen interest or passion for working with worms ”. I think WFA is not for everyone but for people who is very serious about vermicomposting and planning / started to make a business on vermicomposting . If you are one of those people , you will get a lot of great information . There are a lot of expert sharing their experience and knowledge .
I like the idea of " creepy jeans " from Bentley a lot and it later become a worm inn . Right now I am promoting vermicomposting
