COLOMBIA
Although the development of infrastructure is crucial to the economic prosperity of a country, Colombia still lags far behind its neighbors, ranking just above countries such as Bolivia and Haiti. The quality of Colombia’s general infrastructure (see below) currently ranks 110th out of 140 countries, far inferior to nearby Panama (in 40th place) and Ecuador (in 45th place). It ranks poorly according to many indexes, especially in road/highway quality and logistical performance (that is, importing and exporting containers). However, the Colombian government has undergone a huge effort in the last decade to improve on its shortcomings in infrastructure, not only refurbishing roads but also airports, sea/river ports, and railways.
