TECHNO – DEMOCRACY OR DEMOCRACY 3.0
Should we speak of democracy as the old Greeks did ? How is democracy going on these days ? Where is democracy going to ? Is the democracy the best way to rule a country ? There is a lot of ways to rule a country . I ’ ll speak about democracy excluding authoritarianism by religion , coup and other kinds of ruling different to anyone that depends on suffrage , the most important of course is democracy .
There is a lot of questions about democracy but we all know a different kind of democracy , it ’ s not the same in USA than Mexico as well as Iran vs Turkey or the one in URSS . But there is one thing that is true , that we don ’ t have the same democracy that we had 100 years ago ( and may be our country was not a democracy in that time ) now we have civil rights , race and gender equality . There is a lot of things that have changed since that time and one of these things ( and a very important one ) that pulls the chance is information . But … why information ? And where is it taking democracy to ? Well almost all revolutions since 1900 started when people knew that in other country had killed a Zar or with a parliament to control a king or a colony separated from their oppressor . News and ideas , but in that time , news and ideas took a lot of time from the origin to the reader . Television and radio changed that , people started asking to their government equal rights to black people to stop bombing Vietnam , woman ' s right to vote and after de IIWW middle east started experimenting with secular political parties . I ’ ll not take to much time trying to explain how ideas and news changed the democracy that our grandparents had to the one we have , I would like to speak what do I thing will democracy be for our children or grandchildren . Technology is changing so fast that is changing even country borders , language and even the way how we relate to another person and may be these other person is in the other side of the world . There was a time when the mankind created technology to solve primary needs and we pulled technology to evolve with us , now technology is pulling us we can solve problems that are merely theoretical and have ideas and news the moment they happen .
Technology is also giving us tools that are proving to be very effective , computers , smart phones and a lot of gadgets that are changing our society in some way that Durkheim or Weber never thought . Social networks like Facebook , Twitter , YouTube , Periscope , etc . Are making people react from all over the world to something in other country or their own country . Now the new activist are navigating the web , now there are groups like Anonymous attacking ISIS ’ s twitter account or WikiLeaks releasing Hillary Clinton ’ s emails . Our Sons and daughters started spreading the news and then we have these groups taking action , but there are not groups enough to take out a president like Putin in the USSR , but technology continuous evolving and every time it does , it spreads itself to the common citizen and that empowers people .
Representative democracy will become more like direct democracy , there will not be more Delegates ( USA Democracy ) to change the election of a candidate , our children will be able to vote from devices that we are not able to imagine . If they to vote to decide they will not have to wait to count all the ballots , everyone will be able to participate from everywhere and every government will be severely evaluated by the people they rule . But first people will have to fight for the right to internet , for the right for not to be spied upon by the government or any other Institution and the government ’ s recognitions of people ’ s will then our democratic institutions will have to evolve to the new kind of democracy and new social organization . There may be countries that will use this technologies to control and there will be other countries that will accept and promote this change , and I think that these ones will be Social Democratic countries . We are now living the evolution of a very important Institution as Democracy is , and our children will not believe that we used to count ballots or that military coups were possible but we first have to teach them how it was the democracy of our grandparents , how it is ours and how it should be the democracy that they will fight for .
