The bambino
Hangin’ out on my Bambino, eyes resting on the morning fog that slowly opens up the countryside for a new day. The warmth August had to offer is leaving the dirt in this moment. A hay fan wines in the distance. It’s all good.
September is requirement free. May, June, July, August have requirements. Sun, warmth, summer, car meet, swimming, graduations, weddings and happiness. September has nothing of that. September is a low-tempo month, pulling up the boat, school, heading to the mine. Just moments ago it was May and Rock’n’Roll in Österbybruk’s Park. I slowly rock my Bambino one foot forward and another back. It cranks a bit. Even the crank is the same. The bike I had as a child in colossal format I got from PlåtConny during Classic Car Week. No grown-up can relive childhood through riding a Bambino. The bikes are too small to even get the legs in
position underneath the steering.
– But I can.
I’ve got the world’s only Big block Bambino.
As you sit on it and it cranks a bit you immediately turn four. The bar, the treadles, the frame, the tank, everything is in tune. You lean on the bar like you did in 1961. I think about nettles. Don’t know why. The body remembers something the mind forgot. It’s no super project. You can see how fast and eagerly he pulled it together. PlåtConny and Jerry Karlsson have missed painting underneath the saddle and the tank has a paint drop. The project has kept a speed of 120 in willingness to make it. PlåtConnys first project was called Abstinence and the second one Sober. The Bambino could have been named Passion or Fire… Bur it doesn’t. It’s called something else. The most careful piece is the tank. This is where time and effort has been put in. September have no requirements. No expectations. Even then, I’m sitting here overwhelmed, embraced while the mist slowly drives.
