Our Earth
Our earth is a complex system that has many forms of protection. The earth and the people and animals that live on earth are constantly protected from the suns ultraviolet rays thanks to what we call an atmosphere. The atmosphere has four parts to it. The troposphere which is closest to the earth, then the stratosphere, then we have the mesosphere, and last but not least the thermosphere. Those entire layers combine is what we call the earth’s atmosphere. The atmosphere plays a huge role in sustaining life on earth. Without all of these layers formed around the earth life as we know it could not exist. Humans and animals would not be able to handle the ultraviolet rays without a form of protection, which we call the ozone layer, without it we would burn to a crisp. Our ozone isn’t as strong as it used to be though. With pollution and waste taking over our earth, the atmosphere cannot be as strong as it once was. It has started to thin out because of all the greenhouse gasses being released into the air.The ozone layer is found in the troposphere and it is vital for life on earth but ozone gas is not being produced as quickly anymore leaving holes in the ozone layer which can be very harmful. The main reason that our ozone layer is thinning out is because of chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s) which is a gas produced by humans and if enough is created over time it could ultimately lead to the ozone completely thinning out and not being able to protect life on earth any longer. . Scientists have found that for every 1% of ozone depletion in the atmosphere is double the amount of radiation that reaches earth.

Smog??
Smog is developed by human activity. There are two types of smog, LA (Los Angeles) and London smog. Both are different and can affect the atmosphere in different ways. London smog forms because a layer of cold air is trapped under the warm air and is not able to rise and get rid of pollutants, it is stuck close to the ground and can become very dense and dangerous to breathe in. It is often referred to as “dead air.” At this point in time, many people were burning coal in their homes which was a very bad pollutant and that combined with water particles they became drops of acid that they were breathing in, which gave it the name smog because of the smoke and fog combination.
that they were breathing in, which gave it the name smog because of the smoke and fog combination. Now LA type fog is formed a little differently. It is considered a summer fog because it is formed by the combination of sunshine, high humidity, and pollutants from cars. This type of smog caused irritation of the eyes and lungs and overexposure caused lung damage
