Sukarno had nine wives and nine children. One of his daughters, Megawati Sukarnoputri, was the first (and only, so far) female president of Indonesia.She was the fifth president, and ran from the years 2001to 2004. Sukarno was referenced a lot in popular culture. The most recent one being the 2013 movie, " Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka".
Sukarno was born with the name Kusrno Sosrodiharjo. His father was Raden Soekemi Sosrodiharjo, a teacher in Surabaya. His mother was Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai. When he was 14, Sukarno was urged by his father's friend to go study in a Dutch School called Hogere Burgerschool (H.B.S) in Surabaya.
.While in Surabaya, Sukarno met leaders of the Sarekat Dagang Islam, an organization led by the first leader Tjokroaminoto at that time. Afterwards, he joined an organization called Jong Java, also known as 'Javanese Young Men'.
He graduated from H.B.S in the year 1920, at the age of 19. He continued to another Dutch school, Techniche Hoge School, (now ITB) in Bandung, and was finished around the year 1925.
R. Soekarno was born in Blitar, East Java,
Indonesia, on June 6 1901. He died in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, on June 27 1970 in the age of 69. He was Indonesia's first president that held the office from years 1945 to 1966. He played an important during the Dutch's colonization of Indonesia.
