adaptive athlete, offering assistance
and guidance through the often
choppy coastal waters.
After traveling ten nautical miles
their first day, the teams came
ashore and camped overnight
at Smith Point County Park. They
enjoyed a tasty cookout dinner
and camaraderie on the beach
before heading to bed in tents
pitched on the sand. Early the next
morning, the athletes arose to the
warming day for a quick breakfast
before climbing into their kayaks
for another six miles of paddling.
By mid-afternoon, the teams
arrived safely at East Moriches,
hungry for a pig roast dinner
hosted by a local seaside restaurant.
Excited for a celebration of their
exceptional effort, many athletes
were met by supportive family and
friends. For these athletes who
live with disabilities, successfully
completing the Challenge
provided their first opportunity
to undertake water sports. Being
a part of an outstanding physical
accomplishment was reason for
these men and women to believe
in themselves and their abilities.
It helped them understand there
are no limits to what they can
accomplish.
Long Island’s TimeCapital Investor

provided financial support for the
2017 Challenge. Each company also
enlisted enthusiastic volunteers
critical for the success of the event.
