As one of the mid- Atlantic ’ s most popular and well-attended noncompetitive bicycling events , Face of America reaches an everexpanding audience of support each year .

From the inaugural cross-country ride in May 2000 to 2016 ’ s dual routes from Arlington , Virginia and Valley Forge , Pennsylvania , Face of America has connected athletes of varying backgrounds and abilities . Cycling on uprights , recumbents and hand cycles side-by-side , mile by mile , through cities , small towns and rural lands , the athletes grew close together .
At the ride ’ s beginning in Arlington and Valley Forge early Saturday morning , many first-year participants were uncertain of what was to come . Even with training , they wondered if they were capable of completing two days of cycling , or if they could keep up with the peloton . With assistance from more experienced riders , these athletes not only successfully reached Gettysburg , but they inspired others to undertake and succeed through similar physical challenges . It is this exceptional strength and perseverance that inspired their able-bodied colleagues , as well as spectators and supporters who
