DESTINATION KAZAKHSTAN
development of the oil and gas industry
of an independent kazakhstan in the
context of key global trends
This fall will mark 120 years since the start of oil production in Kazakhstan.
The main events dedicated to the celebration of the 120th anniversary
of Kazakhstani oil will be held at the KAZAKHSTAN ENERGY WEEK-2019
from September 23 to 29 in Nur-Sultan. The forum will become a global
platform for discussing ways to achieve goals related to the formation of
a sustainable energy future, and also provides a unique opportunity for
specialists to express their views on current issues, take part in discussions
on the development of the industry, and also hear the position of leading
world experts. The event is organised by the KAZENERGY association
with the support of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Assessing the past period, it can be noted
that the first fountain at the Karashungul
deposit became a harbinger of the
formation of the energy potential and a
fundamentally new profile of our country.
The transformation of the territorial-
production complex of Kazakhstan from
a purely agricultural focus to a diversified
economic structure has become possible,
largely due to oil and gas resources.
Moreover, just 90 years later, it was the
oil and gas industry that became the main
financial source for the formation of our
independent state and the implementation
of socio-economic reforms in the republic.
Confirmation of this is demonstrated by
the main macroeconomic indicators of the
republic. At the end of 2018, the domestic
oil and gas industry provided more than
a fifth of the country's GDP, two-thirds of
the proceeds to the National Fund, about
62% of merchandise exports, and half of
foreign direct investment.

At the same time, the oil and gas industry
of sovereign Kazakhstan is developing
in the global market, taking into account
global processes. In this regard, it seems
possible to look at the latest history of the
national industry through the prism of key
global trends recorded in the last three
decades.
Kazakhstan's contribution to
global demand
The basic and long-term trend in the
world market is the growth in demand for
hydrocarbons. According to the International
Energy Agency: in the 1960s, the planet
consumed about 30 million barrels of oil per
day, in the 1990s it was about 70 million, and
in the 21st century it was already 100 million.
Long-term forecasts of all the world's
leading
energy
companies
also
demonstrate the continued role of oil and
gas in the structure of the planet’s energy
consumption in the foreseeable future.
So, for example, according to recent BP
studies, the share of oil and gas in energy
demand will be more than 53% in 2040.
Kazakhstan has become one of the
important contributors in the process of
providing energy resources to the global
economy. According to BP, our state is
in the TOP-5 of large countries, which
