World Mining Congress : the largest international event in the mining sector will be held in Astana
On 19-22 June 2018 the 25th World Mining Congress ( WMC ), ‘ Astana Mining & Metallurgy ’, will be held in Astana .
The 25th Anniversary World Mining Congress will be held under the moto : ' Innovation Excellence - step forward for mining growth ' and will cover issues regarding geological prospecting , extraction and enrichment , risk assessment , attracting international financing , and others . Top state officials , leading experts of the world scientific community , investors and financial institutions , major international universities and associations will attend the this congress .
In 2018 , the WMC will celebrate two important dates : the 25th anniversary of the congress and the 60th anniversary since the establishment of the congress . The first WMC was held in Warsaw in 1958 , due to the initiative of the outstanding Polish scientist and mining engineer , Bolesław Krupiński . As a result of the first congress , the development of world cooperation in mining science sharply increased , which led to the creation of an international organization known as the World Mining Congress .
The World Mining Congress is the most large-scale industry event that brings together specialists and scientists from 50 countries , working in the field of development of deposits of solid minerals , science and technology , as well as environmental protection and industrial safety .
As of today , 30 countries , 41 profile associations and 17 universities , including the delegations from Australia , Austria , Canada , Norway and France have confirmed their participation in the Congress . The heads of state of the Republic of Kazakhstan , Australia and Poland have been invited .
There are high expectations vested in holding the WMC , primarily in terms of attracting investments . Within the framework of the Congress , the Mines & Money Investment Summit will be held – a successful platform of the European format for B2B meetings . The location of WMC in Kazakhstan as one of the most resource-rich countries opens horizons and investment opportunities for worldwide businesses . In cooperation with ‘ Mines & Money ’, the upcoming congress will be a unique platform for engaging in dialogue with firststring investors to discuss ambitious projects .
Through the WMC and Mines & Money , it is planned to attract about 300 investors to the country : the industry is capital-intensive , at present the area of prospective subsoil plots for investment purposes is more than 1,138,000 square kilometres .
Next year the exhibition Mining World Central Asia will change its location , which will deploy its exposition within the WMC . To date , 271 companies from 28 countries have confirmed their participation in the exhibition .
On October 21 , 2016 , within the framework of the WMC in Rio de Janeiro , the traditional symbol of the World Mining Congress – the transfer of the ‘ Oil Lamp ’ - the baton for hosting the World Mining Congress was passed to the Republic of Kazakhstan .
