We don ’ t make much PR on the type of work we are doing . There are fashion bloggers in this profession ( outrageous in their style ). This is not us . We have a more social positioning in the field and are oriented at 70 % of public , people who prefer comfort and adapt to their environment .
Being in the profession for 15 years , I realised I made the right choice asking myself a question if I like people . Yes , I do like people . This was the reason I majored in psychology .
The first education I got was actually medical . I was studying psychiatry and figured in practice it ’ s not my calling to cure people with disabilities . Then I moved on to the second higher education – psychology . I ’ m also a former model . So , I like clothes . This is my ‘ element ’: to touch the fabrics structure , to choose , mix clothing . These two things ( modeling and people ) made me go into the profession I ’ m in today . In 2002 there was no dress-code consulting in our country . It has just started abroad . Today there are many stylists , personal shopping assistants here , the services develop .
When I ’ m asked of the competition in the market , I reply that there are many in this field . However , the market is so huge and fallow . There is enough space for everyone in this business . If we try to split this pie , everyone will get enough . I ’ m glad that the service is in demand .
Who influenced and keeps influencing you the most ?
My teachers influenced me . My first teacher in fashion , style , the history and its influence , was Alexandre Vassiliev , fashion historian ( a famous person in Russia and Europe ). Alexandre ’ s works and books are all about the history of fashion , how it changed and was adapted globally under the influence of social phenomenon . Fashion doesn ’ t exist out of society , it is inside of it . The second teacher is Natalia Naidenskaya . She is the author of many books in style , mainly business style and color . She is a very well-known person in Russia . I admire my teachers indeed . They influenced me tremendously . I don ’ t look at clothes as something separated from a human : when a person and wardrobe walk different ways . This is a wrong perception to me . I look at clothes as part of culture : culture of the country , nation , a person . We all have personal features .
Now my team and I are accomplishing some big research , an order from an agency that forecasts fashion tendencies . The research is called ‘ Nation ’ s Blossom / color ’.
Moscow city is a melting pot . There are people from different countries , of so many nationalities , faiths , etc . It is important for them to assimilate . We look at how color helps this happen .
In my profession I ’ m also inspired by fashion magazines that were planting their seeds in post-soviet states in 1996-1997 .
Sometimes I ’ m asked about what is more important : fashion or style ? As many of you , I would absolutely reply : style . There were times ( in 1994-1996 ) when we were all hungry for fashion because of the deficit here . Everybody wanted to wear something trendy . There is nothing like this now . There is freedom choice . Many people are fed up with what ’ s fashionable , and style prevails . Style depends on your personality and therefore it is more important for personal positioning and comfort than fashion . However , I love fashion and related magazines ..
Who inspires you ?
I cannot say that I am impressed by fashion designers . The last time I ’ ve been astonished was by Alexander Mcqueen ’ s collection . Anyways , the biggest inspiration comes from my clients . They are living personalities with their own preferences , ups and downs , life events , achievements . You meet the client . He can be a ‘ king ’ in his surroundings , in the office , but behind it all is a young man who wants to keep on conquering the world or someone . He has his own aspirations and dreams . When you see the essence / core of the man behind the facade – it helps to work with this person . Every person has his own pleasure from the process of our mutual work : shopping , choice of clothing .
Female clients sometimes carry their dissatisfaction with the figure or separate parts of their body . I treat a woman ’ s individuality with piety / respect . Often their insecurities come from their youth or even childhood , as a result of inappropriate comments from their surroundings . They might feel insecure even if their figure is perfect .
I help my clients to see they are beautiful , to accept their appearance through the right choice of closing and
