Adriana Adriana Molder has been developing a body of work (drawing and, more recently, painting) that is centred on the portrait genre. These mostly large-format pieces are the product of a need to observe and confront the people surrounding her and the world of images, especially cinema, 'the most beautiful fraud in the world', to use Godard's description. Molder’s drawings and paintings are organised into series. Each series is a project that generally finds its starting-point in some story, book, film or concept. Cinema and literature are the most recurring sources of inspiration for Molder “bigger than life” portraits. The faces of certain actors, together with several kinds of photographic images found in newspapers and magazines, and even in other works of art (mostly paintings), are the models for her portraits: they surround her in her studio.
