WHAT IS THE
IMPORTANCE
OF CULTURE?
Teams do their best when they are happy
and engaged. Saurav Chopra, CEO and
Co-Founder of Perkbox discusses how the
work environment affects this.
I
t can be hard to pin down what ‘culture’ actually is. The
uses of the word are numerous: the ‘culture’ of a region,
live yoghurt ‘culture;’ a ‘cultured’ man... the list goes on.
Though the definition is debatable, we at Perkbox believe
that the matter of its importance, when considering it in a
workplace capacity, is not.
A good company culture increases employee motivation and
engagement and, ultimately, boost profits and bottomline.
A strong company culture does wonders to boosting
engagement, something that has a huge impact on the
level of customer service, satisfaction and retention. This
contributes to a business’ financial success. Further, having
a well-established company culture makes you a more
attractive employer in the eyes of candidates and can be the
differentiator between y ou and your industry competitors.
“Isn’t salary more important?” You may ask. Yes, it is undeniably
an important aspect for your employees. But what actually
impacts every single working hour? It’s the culture that defines
whether or not an employee will come into work and give
their 100% for the time that they are at their desks.
Here at Perkbox, we practice what we preach. Everyone talks
about the palpable buzz that you experience as soon as you
enter our offices. We are a mission-led business and the team
works together to achieve our goals. Everyone is actively
encouraged to give their input and to voice their ideas and
opinions, meaning that each and every member of the Perkbox
team is a part of a collective achievement.
In terms of the more tangible elements, our new offices
provide a great environment in which to work. They are
an amalgamation of questionable music, ping pong tables,
video games, a mini ferris wheel, fairy lights, swing chairs,
table football and picnic benches. We even have our own
office dog! We also have a long-standing ‘Friday beer trolley’
tradition: new joiners (and/or anyone who has done something
funny during the week) push a trolley full of beers around the
office every Friday, introducing themselves and integrating
with the team. It’s a brilliant way to meet everyone.
