Mae Kam has taught us so much over the years and shown us that it is possible to just enjoy the moment, sit back and OBSERVE elephants while they enjoy going about their day.
We feel moving forward that our guests can benefit more by working FOR the elephants in our care and allowing them to have their space and peace, which for most of the elephants that come to BEES, it is their final months and years on earth after a lifetime of hardship."
This change of policy now means that volunteers in the future will only be able to observe the elephants going about the sanctuary, just like at the Elephant sanctuary project in Cambodia. Interaction at the sanctuary in Thailand has been very limited thus far, but we fully support this decision made by our partner to completely end any interaction, who always have the interests and welfare of the elephants at heart.
If you have previously been to Thailand, then the organisation Thailand Elephants would really appreciate if you helped them spread awareness about the plight of elephants in Asia and how to support their freedom. Please take their survey here to help them with learning about people's motivations for traveling to Thailand.
THANK YOU!
