This year Calvin led the Rideau HS senior boys’ rugby team to a second place victory at a tournament. This being his first year as captain of the team, he is proud that he had the leadership skills to accomplish this feat, another great indicator of how great he would be as the captain of a larger team. Though loss doesn’t seem to be in Calvin’s vocabulary, when it does happen he turns all the negative energy of the team into a reason to push ten times harder.
“You have to think, are they a better enemy or friend?”
-Calvin Picard
To get in shape for his rugby seasons he runs 4km three times a week and 6km on the weekends, he also loves to escape to the field for late night practices where he is able to focus on perfecting his skill. Although it is also his biggest challenge, since the ninth grade Calvin has been motivated by his goal to surpass Richie McCaw as the New Zealand All Blacks captain, a title that he has a good chance of receiving.
