Margaret Alaimo is in the sixth year of her second tour of duty at Long Island University as senior associate director of athletics. She works with director of athletics John Suarez in handling the day-to-day operations of the athletic department and providing oversight for the NCAA Compliance program. In addition, Alaimo, who also serves as the department’s senior woman administrator, focuses on staff development and student-athlete welfare. Alaimo, a Brooklyn native, returned to Long Island after serving as interim associate athletic di rector at Fairleigh Dickinson University for two years. Her responsibilities included coordinating NCAA compliance and eligibility matters as well as providing the staff with guidance and leadership. She has served on various Northeast Conference and ECAC committees over the past 12 years, including a stint as the chair of the NEC senior woman administrator committee. Alaimo is currently the chair of the NEC volleyball sport committee and serves on the conference’s ?nancial aid standards committee. Prior to her stint at Fairleigh Dickinson, Alaimo was with Long Island from 19872001. Alaimo served the last four years of that time as senior associate director of athletics. She also was the department’s NCAA compliance coordinator during those four years, overseeing the administration and certi?cation of the department’s teams. She administered NCAA legislative policies and procedures as they applied to the department and produced the student-athlete and staff policy manuals. It was Alaimo’s leadership before Suarez’s arrival that guided the department through the NCAA certi?cation process in 1996. For ?ve years prior to her promotion, she served as associate director of athletics, heading the department through two athletic director changes in as many years. Alaimo received her Bachelor of Science degree in business management in 1987. Alaimo is a member of the Catholic High School Athletic Association and St. Francis College Athletics halls of fame. The former Margaret Flannery was married to Steve Alaimo in 1991. They have three children: Elizabeth, Clare and Danny.
Greg Fox enters his sixth year as associate director of athletics at Long Island University. He is responsible for the department’s external relations, including overseeing its marketing, development, corporate sponsorship, ticketing and community relations efforts. For the previous eight years, Fox served as director of athletic media relations, where he was responsible for the promotion of the department’s 17 teams. During his tenure, he upgraded all athletic publications along with the department’s Web site. Fox also acted as the primary contact for the men’s basketball team and worked with director of athletics John Suarez to spearhead the LIU Athletics Hall of Fame. In his current role, he works closely with Suarez on several projects, including the re-establishment of the Blackbird Club, merchandising, promotions and a continuing effort to upgrade facilities. Fox also acts as event manager for home athletic contests, chairs the LIU Athletics Hall of Fame committee and organizes several annual alumni reunions. Fox worked at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 1993-94 and was involved in the day-to-day operation of its athletics program. During that year, he was in charge of the campus’ annual golf outing, supervised the department’s work study program and was involved in several aspects of the physical education department. From 1988-90, Fox had his ?rst stint at Fairleigh Dickinson as the assistant sports information director. Fox, who teaches undergraduate courses in journalism and sports marketing at Long Island, received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1988. He earned his master’s degree in human resource management from Long Island in 2003. Fox and his wife, Mary Anne, reside in Haworth, N.J.

Matthew Scally
Associate Director of Athletics Director of Compliance
Jeff Mead became assistant director of athletics and director of media relations for the Long Island University in 2006. Mead is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the media relations of?ce and publicity of the department’s 18 varsity sports, while overseeing the production of all department publications and maintenance of the athletics Web site. In addition to these responsibilities, he also serves as the primary media contact for men’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse. Mead came to LIU from Seton Hall University, where he served as the associate sports information director. He was the primary media contact for women’s basketball, men’s soccer and baseball and also assisted with men’s basketball. He was the assistant sports information director at Seton Hall from 2003-05 before being promoted to associate director. Prior to working at Seton Hall, Mead was the communications assistant at the BIG EAST Conference for 2002-03. There he coordinated the media relations efforts for women’s volleyball, women’s lacrosse, ?eld hockey, tennis and baseball, while assisting with football and men’s basketball. Mead also assisted at the BIG EAST men’s basketball championship at Madison Square Garden. Mead is a 2002 graduate of Seton Hall with a Bachelor of Science degree in management with a concentration in sports management and worked as a student assistant in the sports information of?ce. A member of the College Sports Information Directors Association, he was honored as Seton Hall’s Most Valuable Pirate in 2004-05 for his service and dedication to the athletics department and its student-athletes. Mead has worked at numerous NCAA tournaments for men’s basketball, men’s soccer and men’s ice hockey. A native of Sidney, Mont., he currently lives in Bayport, N.Y.

After serving three years as assistant director of athletics, Matthew Scally enters his third year as associate director of athletics at Long Island University. He is responsible for working closely with both the director of athletics and the senior woman administrator to ensure compliance in the Northeast Conference and abide by the rules and regulations of the NCAA. The duties include interpretation of rules and compliance matters as well as addressing issues of eligibility, recruitment and admissions. Scally arrived at Long Island in 1992 as the assistant director of admissions. The Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, native moved to the College of Pharmacy as the director of advisement before joining the athletic department in January 1999 as academic coordinator. He has served as a member of the NCAA Peer Review Team, which evaluates colleges and universities in the NCAA Certi?cation process. In 2007, he was recognized as a distinguished educator by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Scally earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic administration from St. John’s in 1991. He completed his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Long Island in 1997. Scally and his wife, Mary, have two children, Daniel and Grace.
