Music Technology Levels Pupils will be able to access Music Technology at National 3, 4 or 5. Course Outline There are three units and an Added Value Unit. Each component unit is designed to provide progression to the corresponding unit at the next level. The three Units are: Music Technology skills: developing skills in the use of music technology hardware & software to capture and manipulate audio. Then use these skills creatively in sound production, in a range of contexts. Understanding 20th & 21st century music: develop skills in musical analysis in the context of a range of 20 th and 21st century musical styles and genres. Music Technology in Context: developing a broad understanding of the music industry, including a basic awareness of implications of intellectual property rights. * In all units pupils are expected to critically reflect on their own work and that of others. Rationale Purpose and Aims To enable pupils to:  Develop skills, using appropriate hardware/software to enhance and adapt pre-recorded music  Develop skills in musical analysis, through the study of various styles of 2oth & 21st century Music  Develop literacy skills in context of technology and musical concepts  Create final recordings of live performances, radio/podcasts and film soundtracks  Reflect on and evaluate their own work/progress and that of others in a constructive and meaningful manner Information regarding typical learners who might take the course These courses are aimed at pupils who have an interest in the Production aspect of music. This course could lead to further study at college/degree level and would be beneficial for anyone who wishes to work in the music or gaming industry. Pupils will use specialist music technology hardware such as digital multi-track recorders along with industry standard software such as Protools and Garageband to capture & manipulate music, then use these skills creatively in a variety of contexts. Pupils are not required to perform on instruments for this course. 50
