S4 At the end of S3 pupils will begin the Senior Phase. The Senior Phase can be regarded as that which takes place in the final stages of compulsory education and beyond – normally around age 15-18. The Senior Phase builds firmly on the Experiences and Outcomes a young person will have achieved through the broad general education from S1-S3. The Senior Phase will build firmly on the broad general education in S1-S3. All young people can expect the entitlements set out in CfE. Five entitlements      a coherent curriculum the opportunity to obtain qualifications and to continue to develop the four capacities opportunities to develop skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work personal support support in the transition to positive and sustained destinations beyond school Whilst the Senior Phase is the main stage for pupils gaining qualifications it is important to acknowledge that this phase must also provide programmes and opportunities that widen pupil experiences and achievements. 12
