Women’s Rights: Still a Long Way to Go!
Latest trends of women empowerment have highlighted several eminent issues of
women. Though the liberation of women’s right in modern times seems easy, there are millions
of women that are struggling just to live in many parts of the world.
In spite of the fact that the international movements of women's rights have made greater
strides over several years, girls and women are still treated lesser than men. They are trafficked
into sex slavery of forced labor. They are not given proper access to politics or education. They
are treated as objects
Nearly millions of unborn babies are aborted each year because of being a female sex.
Women are subjected to violence globally. According to the London School of Hygiene and
Medicine, one in every three women experiences violence in her lifetime. The report also states
that 38 percent of the murdered women are killed in relationships. Mainly, the suffering women
are familiar by their abuser. Statistically reported in 2012, 92 percent women experienced sexual
harassment and violence in public locations.
The tradition of early marriages of young girls causes abundant problems. Though
several campaigns have been conducted in this regard, almost 250 million women were reported
to be married before the age of 15. The scenarios happen mainly in rural regions where the
young girls on reaching puberty are considered for marriage by their family members. Early
marriages cause child birth at a very young age which eventually leads to health problems. The
additional aspect of violence by their partners causes women to suffer further in their lives. They
are not able to take care of themselves 80 percent of the time that leads to genital problems or in
extreme cases, deaths.
Since centuries, women have been responsible for the domestic work. The household
chores require more time and effort. The dilemma of the situation is that the women does not get
paid and generally works more than men. Even in situations where women work, they are mostly
underpaid. It is extremely difficult for women to secure managerial level positions in the work
place. Even if they do, several of these women still have to carry the responsibility of their
household. According to a published report, 47 percent of the women were employed in the year
of 2014. It is highly unfortunate that there are laws in several countries that restrict women from
availing the rights of working. There are at least 18 countries that have given working rights of
women to their husbands.
