HOW CAN YOU GIVE BACK
BY SHARING WHAT YOU
KNOW?
‘Giving is not just about making a donation. It’s about making a difference.’ Kathy
Calvin, CEO, president of the United Nations Foundation.
There are a vast number of ways to
share your knowledge. Some are
photographs, podcasts, videos, and
of course the written word.
While words can be in the form of
a blog post, an article, a comment
on Facebook or LinkedIn, one of
the longest standing forms of the
written word remains the humble
book. The ability to reread and
revisit a book is one of the cheapest
and simplest ways for us to connect
with others who inspire us and
those who lift us up.
How can you ‘make a difference’
using a book as a tool to give back?
Think about your life and business
journey to date. What books have
made a difference to how you have
handled critical junctures in your
life? How have a few words in a
book, make an enormous difference
to you? How can you have this level
of impact on, potentially, many
others?
The author, Alice Hocker, says it
well, ‘Your greatness is not what
you have, it’s what you give.’
“ Your
greatness
is not what
you have,
it’s what you
give.
“
T
he phrase ‘giving back’ or
‘making a difference’ are
thrown around in various
media with (seemingly)
ever increasing regularity these
days. Each of us will have our
own interpretation of what these
phrases mean. Having said this,
what does this mean in the context
of sharing your life and business
learnings.

Could you become an author that
other people read, quote and
ultimately make a difference in
someone else’s life for generations
to come?
