When it comes to skin wellness, everyone has an opinion about what is right or wrong says Dr Giulia D’ Anna. But whatever your thoughts, Dr Giulia is confident that we all agree we want to look the best that we can so that we feel the best we can. So let’s break down some of the mystery and discuss what you can do to really make a difference. Skin health is central to vitality and skin youthfulness. It doesn't matter whether you believe in medical intervention or not, you cannot deny that your skin is an organ. In fact it is the largest organ that we have, and we need to look after it to keep it healthy, looking supple and radiant. We should eat well by including lots of healthy fruits and vegetables, but not forgetting to look for fresh in- season food whenever possible. However this is not always enough. In the hierarchy of importance, our brain, heart and liver are critical to life, and our body knows that. So are our kidneys, lungs and so on. Without these our body will cease to function at all. Why is this important? It is vital because when our body is distributing nutrients that we eat to the organs that need them most first, and then these organs will take precedence over our skin. This can leave our skin with the remnants of nutrients from our diet. This is why our skin will often be the first to show the world that we are run down or are not feeling on top of the world. To start any skin health journey, Dr Giulia recommends that her clients implement a skin care regime that includes vitamin rich ingredients. Vitamin C is perfect in the morning, as it is an antioxidant and vital for skin to make collagen. Adding Vitamin B and a moisturizer containing resveratrol are perfect at improving hydration and adding protective qualities to the skin. At nighttime, Vitamin A or retinol have long been considered the gold standard in skincare. 58 Women’s Network Magazine
